NOTICE OF RACE

1. RULES

1.1    The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined by The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2009-2012.

1.2    The ISAF Recognized J/80 Class Association (IJCA) Class Rules (CR) in effect at the time of the regatta will apply.

1.3    In accordance with RRS Appendix G3, a boat chartered or loaned for the regatta may carry national letters or a sail number in contravention of the CR.

2. ORGANIZING AUTHORITY

The organizing authority for the regatta is Fort Worth Boat Club (FWBC), in conjunction with the International J/80 Class Association and the J/80 USA Class Association.

3.  ELIGIBILITY

3.1    The regatta is open only to members of the J/80 Class (IJCA) as defined by the J/80 Class Rules (CR) and in compliance with the current rules of the J/80 Class Association.

3.2    The regatta is a “Member” event and Helmsperson eligibility shall be determined in accordance with CR C.2.

3.3    Copies of the following referencing the appropriate J/80 shall be required for registration to document eligibility:

4. ENTRIES

4.1    Entries may be made online at www.J80NorthAmericans.com or by check payable to FWBC and mailed to J/80 North Americans at 10000 Boat Club Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76179.  Entry fees are due at time of registration.

4.2    The fee for entries is $450.00 per boat. The entry fee includes launch and haul, assigned slip or side-tie area; 3 days of racing; welcome dinner on Thursday evening, breakfast buffet on race days and awards reception on Sunday afternoon for skippers and up to 3 additional crew members. Lunches may be purchased from FWBC with orders received no later than the close of registration on October 30.  Boat storage is available before and after the regatta with prior arrangement.  Contact Regatta Chair or FWBC Harbor Master for details.

4.3    All boats shall present a valid J/80 Measurement Certificate, proof of IJCA membership for the owner and helmsman, a completed Owner Regatta Declaration, an Event Release, a signed Crew Weight Declaration and a waiver for minors (for sailors under the age of 18) before the close of check-in.

4.4    Entries will not be accepted after 1700 hrs on October 30, 2012.   A late fee of $75.00 will be added after October 15, 2012.

4.5    Entry is not complete and a boat will not be permitted to compete until the entry fee and all documentation required in 4.2 have been filed with the organizing authority.

5. MEASUREMENT

5.1    Each boat must possess a valid Measurement Certificate.

5.2    All helmsmen and crew will be weighed at check-in in accordance with CR C3.1.

5.3    Boats and sails shall be subject to inspection and measurement to ensure compliance with the CR as provided by RRS rule 78.

7. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Sailing Instructions will be available at check-in and thereafter will be available at the FWBC Club Office. The official message board will be located on the east window of the Bar on the outside covered porch at Fort Worth Boat Club.

8. COURSES

Windward/Leeward courses will be sailed on Eagle Mountain Lake in the area indicated at the Competitors’ Meeting. Leeward gates and offset marks may be used at the discretion of the race committee.

9. ARBITRATION

For protests involving an alleged breach of the rules of Part 2 and rule 31 of the RRS, an arbitration hearing will be held prior to a protest hearing.

10. SCORING

10.1     Two races are required to be completed to constitute a regatta.

10.2     When fewer than six (6) races have been completed, a boat’s overall score will be the total of her race scores.  When six (6) or more races have been completed, a boat’s overall score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. This changes RRS Appendix A2.

11. CREW

Each boat’s crew shall not be changed during the regatta, except with a written request for crew substitution and prior written approval by the race committee. Substitution after the competitors’ meeting will be permitted only in exceptional circumstances.

12. PRIZES

Overall prizes will be awarded for first through fifth place.

13. HAUL-OUT RESTRICTIONS

Boats shall not be hauled out during the regatta except with and according to the terms of prior written permission of the race committee.

14. DIVING EQUIPMENT AND PLASTIC POOLS

Underwater breathing apparatus and plastic pools or their equivalent shall not be used around boats between the preparatory signal of the first race and the end of the regatta.

15. RADIO COMMUNICATIONS

15.1  A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to wireless devices/phones.

15.2  The Signal boat will communicate with competitors on VHF channel 68.

16. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

17. INSURANCE

Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum coverage of $300,000 per event or the equivalent.

18. MEDIA RIGHTS

By entering this event, competitors give absolute right and permission to Fort Worth Boat Club, to the ISAF Recognized J/80 Class Association, and to the J/80 USA Class Association for any photography and video footage taken of persons and boats during the regatta to be published in any media worldwide whatsoever for any editorial, promotional and advertising purposes and to be used in press information.
