Junior Sailing Team Race Down in Houston

This past weekend, our Junior Race Team proudly kicked off the TSA regatta season at the TSA Ragnot Regatta hosted by the Houston Yacht Club. Despite facing cold, wet, and challenging conditions, our 8 talented sailors persevered and showcased incredible determination and skill on the water. Of our team, 5 competed in the ILCA fleet and 3 in the RWB Opti fleet, displaying teamwork, resilience, and hard work throughout the event. The team dinner was at the Aquarium at the Kemah Boardwalk, afterwards, the sailors and Coach Val enjoyed getting to pet and feed the stingrays at Stingray Reef.
We’re thrilled to share some standout racing results: Isla Mrstik secured an impressive 1st place in ILCA 6, her first competition in the larger rig. Shiloh Mabry had an outstanding performance as well, finishing 3rd in ILCA 4. In the RWB Opti fleet, Evie Hyland showed great determination, placing 10th overall in a highly competitive field and long days on the water.
It was an exciting start to the season, and we look forward to seeing the continued growth and success of our team in the events to come. Congratulations to all our sailors for their dedication and hard work!

Fort Worth Boat Club's lifelong member, Mr. Grey McGown, details the life and legacy of Fort Worth's Ruth Herring. Herring began sailing in 1930, one of the only women in the sport at the time. She went on to win multiple state and national titles and secured her place as a Texas sports legend.
